Taking Action

"No more will the sound of weeping be heard there, nor the sound of a shriek; never again will there be an infant there who lives only a few days, nor an old man who does not run his full course; …They will build houses and live in them, they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit. They will not build for others to live in, or plant for others to eat; they will not toil in vain…"

Isaiah 65:19-23

LIFESTYLE CHOICES

Change your habits
During Lent we are encouraged to prepare for Easter by giving up habits which are seen as indulgent. For many of us this will mean giving up sweets, or chocolate. Why not seek to replace some of your every day habits on a permanent basis with ones that will benefit the earth and address structural poverty. Take public transport, volunteer, buy fair trade goods, make your home more environmentally friendly. Download a Lifestyle Awareness calendar for more creative ideas.

CAMPAIGN

Into the heart of Uganda through Facebook
A group of young Australians have recently returned from Uganda - bringing stories of death-defying road rules, child soldiers and the beauty of the Nile. Their two-week trip to the troubled African country saw them visit sites of great despair - and also of great hope - as they explored the aid and development work of Caritas Australia.

CAMPAIGN

Survival: The story of a child soldier
Children are often the most vulnerable people in times of conflict. Fleeing from violence, witnessing horrific killings and being orphaned are sadly common experiences for the young in battle zones. Caritas Australia recognises this vulnerability and many of our programs in conflict areas incorporate specific measures to help and protect young people.
