WA: Kenya for Peace Concert, 1 March 2008
The WA Kenyan Community will be holding a fundraising concert for victims of recent violence in Kenya at the Subiaco Church of Christ Youth Centre (Old Salvation Army Building) Cnr of Barker Rd and Rowland St, from 7pm on 1 March 2007. The concert will feature Sian Brown, Lechnic and other artists. A short film One Day by Richard Sveen will be screened and artwork donated by local artists will be auctioned on the night. NSW: Public Lecture -Religion, religiosity and the social integration of immigrants in Australia and Canada, 4 March 2007
In a free public lecture to be held at the University of Technology, Sydney, Jeffrey Reitz & Jock Collins will present a review of the recent 2006 census data on religious diversity in Sydney before addressing two dimensions of the relationship between religious diversity and social integration. The first issue to be explored is the way that religious diversity finds an expression in the built environment in Australian cities and towns, including opposition to Mosques and Islamic schools; The second is the antagonism towards, and criminalization of, Islamic immigrants in Australia following the events of 9/11. Archbishop John Baptista Odama, of the Gulu Diocese in northern Uganda, is renowned for his peace building efforts in the horrendous twenty-year conflict in the region.
As the senior leader of the Catholic Church in the Diocese, and the President of the Catholic Justice and Peace Commission, the Archbishop has played an instrumental role as negotiator between the two main warring parties, the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) and the Ugandan Government forces.
