ACT: Parliamentary Commemoration 24 May 2007
In Canberra the 10th Anniversary of the Bringing Them Home Report will be commemorated in the Great Hall of the Federal Parliament. The main speakers will be inaugural Chair of ATSIC Lowitja O'Donoghue, HREOC's Indigenous Social Justice Commissioner Tom Calma, and Henry Reynolds, the historian whose research played a crucial role in the High Court's Mabo judgement, It is hoped that many Members and Senators will attend.
WA: Reconciliation - It starts with me! May 30, 2007
Primary and secondary school students will participate in a walk to promote reconciliation in Leederville, Western Australia.
The event will explore how each of us in our own way can help create a 'united Australia that respects this land of ours: values the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage; and provides justice and equity for all." (Australian Declaration Towards Reconciliation, 2000).
