“Today, on Human Rights Day, let us recommit ourselves
to the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights,
and let us rededicate ourselves to wiping the scourge of
torture from the face of the earth."

DEMAND JUSTICE FOR DAVID HICKS
“David
is still being held in solitary confinement and is not doing
well. He spends 23 hours a day in a cement cell at Camp 5 in
Guantanamo. Sometimes it’s 24 hours a day. He’s
been in isolation since March this year.” Major Mori
David Hicks has now been held in Guantanamo Bay for nearly five
years without a trial. Support Get Up’s petition, calling
for David Hicks to be repatriated, so justice can run its course.

DEBRA ANNE HOCKING: A
PERSONAL JOURNEY
From
1788, when Australia was founded, until 1967 Indigenous people
in this country were not counted among the peoples of the Commonwealth.
This legacy of neglect extended to children who were forcibly
removed from their families up until the 1970’s. This
is Debra Anne’s story as a member of the stolen generations.

KIDS CONGRESS
2006: MEET JESSICA AND OSCAR
As
the Make Poverty history campaign gathers momentum around the
country, Year 5 delegates from the Broken Bay Diocesan were gathering
at Challenge ranch on the outskirts of Sydney.
They were attending the Broken Bay inaugural Kids Congress 2006
investigating and discussing world wide issues, listening to inspiring
speakers, and, of course, spending time in bunk beds talking and
giggling until late at night.
11 year old Jessica Orchard and Oscar Dean were delegates at
the congress. Read their reflections on kids congress where
their chosen topic was Refugees which came under the group
banner of Human Rights
